What are the Different Types of Veneers?

There are a few types of veneers. They include the following:

Composite Veneers: Composite veneers are used to conceal minor cosmetic concerns. Dentists use a tooth-colored composite resin to achieve the desired outcomes.

Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers are custom-made to fit your dental anatomy, and they can address a number of aesthetic dental imperfections. Before they are placed, your dentist will remove some enamel from your natural teeth to roughen the surfaces of the teeth, helping your new porcelain veneers stay in place.

Your first appointment for dental veneers consists of an initial consultation where you and your dentist will discuss your goals, assess your overall health, and determine if veneers could help you achieve those goals. If appropriate, your dentist will prepare your teeth by removing small amounts of enamel. Afterward, they’ll take impressions of your teeth, which a dental lab technician will use to fabricate your custom veneers. Because it can take a few weeks for the lab to complete your final veneers, your dentist will create temporary veneers to wear while the permanent veneers are being fabricated.

On your second visit to the dentist, they will check your final veneers’ color, shape, and fit and ensure that you are happy with the appearance as well. Then, your dentist will permanently bond the veneers in place with dental cement. Finally, your bite will be evaluated, and adjustments will be completed if they are needed. If you want or need to change something about your final veneers (like shape or color), it’s important to let your dentist know before they are cemented, and they’ll work with you and the lab to ensure your results are acceptable. If you decide later on that you do not like the appearance; the veneers will need to be removed and a new impression made, which significantly increases the financial and time commitment of the patient.

After receiving dental veneers, it’s important to remember that brushing, flossing, and regularly visiting your dentist are still crucial components of your oral health routine. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste. Avoid whitening products as they may scratch your veneers. And to help make your veneers last as long as possible, you should avoid biting directly into crunchy or hard foods (e.g., apples, carrots, and tougher meats). Instead, cut up these foods and chew them with your back teeth because while dental veneers are strong and reliable, they are not fool-proof and can break just like a natural tooth.
